‘Low carbon’ shopping…how to build a cart bike

Dear friends,

In our search for practical solutions to reduce car travel, we stumbled upon this innovative ‘low carbon’ shopping bicycle. The design looks fairly simple, and potentially something that one can do at home. We give you, the Cart Bike!

The picture above is a project by Ryan McFarland. See his design and guide on how-to-build-your-own cart bike. A short video of his cart bike in action is also available on his Flickr.

Another group that has done some design and construction of their own is Mat, Dan, Gus, Ben and Lisa – from Bicycle Lane Industries – based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA. Vist them for a step by step guide on how-to-build-your-own cart bike.

Is anyone in Cape Town or South Africa up for trying this design and bulding a cart bike? If you are, we’d love to hear from you, and see how it works!

Ride on Cart Bike!

Best,
